All over the planet, the first of May, is observed as the Universal Labour Day, but very few recognize that 1st May is observed as "Maharashtra Day" and "Gujarat Day."For the two States, as on 1 May, when both the current states of Maharashtra and Gujarat were created, the first day of May is significant.Thus, while the entire world celebrates Labor Day on May 1, the Maharashtra and Gujarat citizens celebrate a much more comprehensive affair.

Know about the past of Gujarat & Maharashtra:

The explanation why May 1 is observed in both the states as Maharashtra Day and Gujarat Day is that the present Maharashtra State was established on this day, 57 years ago.At the time, Bombay had people who spoke different languages such as Marathi, Guiarati, Kutchi and Konkani, but it did not succeed. And Maharashtra Andolan started to demand that a separate state be created.

The agitation lasted until 1960 and the same year, the India Parliament passed the Bombay Reorder Act to separate Gujarat and Maharashtra into the Multilingual State of Mumbai. The statute was passed on 1 May 1960.

A parade in the Shivaji Street, Dadar is conducted for the Maharashtra day. The king, the police force of the State Reserve, the police of Mumbai and others all form part of the parade. There are also numerous cultural activities in Maharashtra.The day is still a national holiday, and all colleges, banks, public offices are all locked. For their outstanding achievement, many prominent individuals of university credentials, police officers, sportsmen and physicians are honored.The day of parades and other government activities is observed in Gujarat. It will be conducted in Ahmadabad, on the Sabarmati Waterfall.
